Welcome to the inaugural year here at Bloomfield. Like you, this is also my first year at Bloomfield, so we will learn and grow together.
Physical education in high school is going to be a little bit different than that you were doing in middle school. The focus this year will be on how to get you ready to take your health and wellness into your own hands, because you will not have another organized physical education class again unless you decide to do it on your own.
So get ready for an fun filled year of adventure and learning.

What is physical education?
Physical education at Bloomfield High School is an integral part of providing a balanced education for the whole child. Physical education makes a unique contribution to the total educational process by addressing the cognitive (knowledge), affective (social), as well as the psychomotor (physical) development and skills of each child. According to the Society of Health and Physical Educators, "The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of physical activity." The State Board of Education adopted the Physical Education Model Content Standards for California Public Schools and the California Physical Education Framework, in 2005 and 2009 respectively, which affirmed physical education as an academic content area. Highlighting that participation in physical activity is not the same as learning the content standards in physical education, which provide a comprehensive vision of what students need to know and be able to do at each level.
